The City of Hahira offers rental of the new Depot and Community Center for various functions.  Both are conveniently and centrally located for community events, celebrations, or meeting needs. Police Chief
 Hahira, a progressive city of approximately 3200 residents and 50 city employees, is accepting applications for the hire of a Police Chief. Applicant should have a bachelor’s degree and experience in one or more of the following areas: political science, criminology, or criminal justice.  Applicant must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well-organized and capable of functioning effectively in a highly independent situation.  Applicant must possess excellent written communication, public relation and supervisory skills, and the ability to interact effectively with citizens, developers, business owners, property owners, and other employees.  Applicant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations relating to above areas. The ideal candidate has served 10 years in a police department, including 5 years as a Lieutenant, Captain or higher.  The candidate must also possess a Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST) certification, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.  Necessary experience is also the completion of executive management or equivalent training (e.g. FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Police Executive Research Foundation, etc.)  Applicant must also possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.  The position is full time working 40 hours per week. The Police Chief is appointed by the City Council, but works under the supervision of the Mayor and City Manager. The starting salary for this position is $65,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Hahira Historical Society
Preserving our past for the Future

The Hahira Historical Society was founded and incorporated April 7,1994 by a group seeking to preserve and record the history of the City of Hahira, Northern Lowndes County, and its people. The Society meets at the museum at 116 East Lawson Street, which is the Old Smith Hospital Doctors Building, on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. The meetings generally have programs designed around specific topics relating to the history, genealogy, folklore and archaeology of the area.

Membership for the Hahira Historical Society is open to anyone interested in the history, genealogy, folklore and archaeology of Hahira and Lowndes County, Georgia.  Membership dues fall into four categories:

1. Individual ------- $ 10.00 per year
2. Family ----------- $ 15.00 per year
3. Student --------- $ 5.00 per year
4. Patron ----------- $ 100.00

The Hahira Historical Society Memorial Fund is always available to give a living memorial to honor a loved one or family event.  For more information, please contact Ashley Coombs at 229-794-2459.

To rent the building for a wedding, school event, family reunion, meeting, etc. please contact Ashley or Tim Coombs at 229-794-2459.

If you have any historical or research items (e.g. Family Bible, pictures, letters, display cases, desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinet etc.) that you would like to donate or lend to the Society, please contact us. If accepted they will be safely kept and displayed in your family's name.
